Ray Bartolo was one of the first American soldiers to enter the Flossenburg concentration camp at the end of World War II. The experience left him with recurring nightmares until he was finally able to talk with eight survivors of the camp at the 50th anniversary of its liberation.
      This piece won an honorable mention in the 2004 Writer's Digest article contest
